About Dr. Byk

The most valuable commodity in the world is information. This is why I find it extremely important to discuss all aspects of psychiatric care with those that come to me for help. I take the time to hear the symptoms, attempt to understand what is happening, so that I can make an informed and accurate diagnosis. I understand that sometimes the answers that I give are not something that’s expected, but I always strive to make the best diagnosis as well as provide the best treatment that is medically indicated. My philosophy is to treat with the least amount of medication necessary at the smallest effective dose. This attempts to avoid medication stockpiling.

I received my Medical Doctor degree at St. George University School of Medicine in Grenada, West Indies. I completed my adult psychiatry residency at East Carolina University’s Brody School of Medicine in Greenville, North Carolina. I finished a fellowship at the University of Cincinnati Institute of Psychiatry and the Law where I received specialty training in forensic psychiatry. My adult psychiatry board certification was granted in 2009 and I am a fellow of the American Psychiatric Association.

A forensic psychiatrist is a medical professional that can give opinions at the intersection of mental health and the law regarding both criminal and civil matters. Forensic psychiatrists can perform evaluations in multiple domains in which law and psychiatry intersect.

I completely a yearlong fellowship designed to train psychiatrists in the subspecialty of forensics. This training allows psychiatrists to be eligible for a board certification in forensics.

I have specific experience and expertise in guardianships evaluations, general capacity evaluations, capacity to stand trial, not guilty by reason of insanity evaluations, and police interrogation and confession evaluations.

If you are an attorney or believe you may need a forensic evaluation and have questions about these services, please contact me directly via email.

GERIATRICS

Geriatric Psychiatry, a psychiatric subspecialty, focuses on the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of complex mental disorders uniquely occurring in late life. Geriatric Psychiatrists focus on providing care for intensive-needs patients and their caregivers at the end of the life cycle, a time when many complex physical and mental health issues coalesce.

I have experience with this population which I obtained through work at nursing homes and assisted living facilities throughout Florida. Currently I sees patients in a private practice setting and am capable of diagnosing and treating these complex mental health impairments.

TELEMEDICINE

One of the major problems with mental health right now is access to care. I

understand this so I offer telehealth appointments via a HIPPA compliant

software service for both new patients and already existing patients.
